About the programme

The Master is not only itinerant, but international and interdisciplinary as well, allowing students from all over the world to gain a deep understanding of the role of the European Union in an ever more complex world. From the settlement of international conflicts to the negotiation of trade agreements, democracy promotion or sustainable development strategies, students discover how EU institutions, policies and actors shape our world by exploring case studies and discussing with field experts.

Overview of the academic year

October to December: Berlin
Classes with EU and international organisation experts on the basics of all the five modules..

January to March: Nice
Mid-term exams;
study trip to the European institutions and international organisations in Brussels, Luxembourg, Strasbourg.

April to June/July: Rome or Istanbul
According to their choice, students will do their third trimester either in Rome or in Istanbul.
In Rome, special focus is given to the Mediterranean region and Africa with particular emphasis on the issues of migration, poverty and food security. In Istanbul, students study the dynamics of EU-Turkey relations and focus on area studies of the Black Sea region, the Caucasus including ENP, and Central Asia.

Finalising research work, defence of the thesis, final oral exams, Graduation ceremony.

From July:

Teaching modules

Five basic modules form the framework of teaching and research at CIFE. International guest lecturers, experts from various European and international organisations, as well as researchers from partner institutions contribute to these modules.
